Back inside Neumos for Truckasauras, I realized that some of us kind of take these guys for granted at this point, as they’ve become trusty fixtures on our live circuit. But the Truck always rise to the occasion for the big events, and this Block Party gig was no exception. Their opening salvo began with rich analog-synth flatulence that led into a menacing-automaton electro stomp, like Kraftwerk taking a robotic walk on the dystopian side.

As the set progressed, it became apparent that Truckasauras now pack more urgency and excitement into their tracks, more bass pressure and harder, more pugilistic beats. Also, another thing that gets overlooked is that Truckasauras write great, moving melodies. And in their newer material, they’re bringing in some Autechre-like complexity to the thug-electro rhythms. The sound last night was massive and bold, as action-packed as their notorious visuals (featuring clips from Mel Gibson and Arnold Schwarzenegger flicks, as well as the perennial Hulk Hogan wrestling farces).

— Dave Segal ( The Stranger), about the 2010 Capitol Hill Block Party
"Thanks to the fest having to shut down the outdoor Main Stage at 9pm, local analog electronic crew Truckasauras found themselves in the unlikely, once-in-a-lifetime scheduling anomaly of having Jack White open for them. It might have been the biggest single show the band has ever played, Neumos stuffed to sweaty capacity, with a line to get in the door about a mile long—and they definitely used the opportunity to their (NES) advantage. The sound was thick and deep, the synth bass lines massive and rumbling and round, the drum machines cracking, the acidic synth lines chirping against their cutoff filters; it was the most dialed-in of any set I heard all weekend (kudos, Neumos sound crew). And the crowd, fresh off a set of the most trad blues rock imaginable (though impeccably done of course), got surprisingly down for a set of instrumental electro jams. (Dan Bordon’s videos were a big hit, of course; a kid in the crowd, reacted to the Hulk Hogan footage with, “What the fuck?! That’s awesome!” A new clip, looped and fidgeted from the scene in Lethal Weapon where Mel Gibson is contemplating suicide with a pistol pointed into his mouth, seemed strangely topical all these years later.) The band closed with their peppy, poppy newish number “Quarters,” which is named for the old Kirkland video arcade and which basically sounds like a bunch of arcade games having a rave after the humans close up shop, lock the doors, and go home for the night. Couples were grinding, a guy was dancing on the rim of a trash can, drunk blondes were barging their way to the front. The whole place was hyped. Truckasauras rocked it."
— Eric Grandy ( The Stranger ), about the 2010 Capitol Hill Block Party
"The Seattle-via-Kirkland brothers and childhood friends made their instrumental synthesizer electro dance hop the heaviest I’d heard it in a while, testing Neumos’ speakers’ capacities in all the right ways. Percussion and keyboard sounds came out crumpled and gleaming, crunching and whooshing. I’d forgotten just how knee-shaking bass could be, how skull-rattling and emotionally affecting Truckasuaras’ synthesizer melodies are when sound-checked carefully. It’s a physical thing, Truck’s sound, and the group’s criminally short Block Party set showcased it neatly, quickening tempos and exaggerating bass hits from behind stacks of vintage analog gear. By the end of the show, the floor was pounding, jammed with sweaty flesh, and someone was smoking marijuana. Tell-tale signs of a successful dance party."
— Andrew Matson ( Seattle Times), about the 2010 Capitol Hill Block Party
"It’s like if a Nintendo had sex with a drum. It’s like if paranoia had sex with summertime. It’s like if a mustache had sex with a colony of ants. It’s like if the holodeck had sex with a musical saw. It’s like if a pack of oboes had sex with the very last mustard fart in the bottle. It’s like if dancing had sex with alarm. It’s like if a dinosaur had sex with a truck. It’s like if your mom had sex with your dad and you came out and your ears had sex with fun."

This show is a MASSIVE step for Truckasauras and  the continued crossing of genres that is becoming the defining aspect of what has been dubbed Seattles 3rd wave Hip Hop scene. To be honest We like to take genres and have some serious adult fun with ‘em before we let them out  of Vanbo in a Fred Meyer parking lot far from home. For this show we are inviting thirty friends, who happen to be some of the towns hottest M.C.’s, to join the party and have a good time. Chuuuurch!!!!

Bellingham was off the hinges, what with the trippy tracers and that vortex emanating from Adam. Good times.

Thursday! We will be rocking out at the Wild Buffalo in Bellingham as part of this video premiere. Come get drunk with us and a bunch of snowboarders after we eat a burrito at Casa Que Pasa.
